Inch, has changed our lives for the better, he has brought us closer to our Lord. Yes, he can be strong willed and stubborn but more often than not he is the cause of great joy and pride! We know God has great plans for you, continue to

Impatient

We were praying that our bundle of joy would arrive before "U" went back to Minor Seminary, but that was not meant to be. Yes I was a bit demanding of God, we want a baby, a healthy baby, and we want him to be born two weeks early!!

My thirty-eight week check up reviled that the baby's head is down but he is in posterior position and he not engaged in my pelvis. This is due to the fact belly is so far stretched out. I tend to get very impatient at the end of my pregnancies. Inch was born two weeks early and I think that gives me some kind of hope that it will happen with each baby. As I was walking up to receive Holy Communion last Thursday I finally said "Thy will be done."

Crucian Dad had a four day weekend, this hasn't happened in a very long time. We were all so excited... well he caught a pretty bad cold with non stop cough. Not the best time for him to be the labor coach nor to bring a baby home. This has helped me with my impatients to hold our little boy. Now I am praying for Crucian Dad to get better and the rest of us to stay healthy, and for safe delivery. Please keep us in prayer.

My best friend in high school was from Korea, I would eat Korean food with her all the time. I miss it. I usually crave it when I am pregnant. We discovered a really good Korean restaurant today. We all enjoyed the food and it was a really classy place.

Christmas Traditions

We've had the tradition of making a birthday cake for Jesus since Inch was two. He asked us if Jesus was going to have a birthday cake for His birthday, so the tradition got started in our family.

Rose made the frosting and decorated the Birthday Cake for Jesus. If you are wondering what's the red stuff on top of the cake, it's rasberry filling. Some of it oozed out from between the layers of cake. It was so yummy.

Inch, Rose and I had our biannual dentist appointment last week. Our dentist suggested GMAC just watch this time to prepare her for her first dental appointment. It was Rose's turn first GMAC sat in my lap, watch carefully, and asked lots of question. When Rose was done with her cleaning, the hygienist, asked GMAC if she wants a practice appointment. She hopped into Rose's lap and really enjoyed it.

Nine Years ago

Nine Years ago today we discovered that our daughter had Cancer. Mystical Rose is strong and healthy now but then she was only twenty-one months old.

We had just moved to South Carolina from Turkey; no family, just started to make some new friends, our furniture had not even been delivered from over-seas. Seeing your child fighting a life threatening illness is something that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

As the saying goes "God doesn't give you anything that you can't handle." We were able to come through this ordeal, we thank God for the abundance of graces he poured upon us.
We are very grateful for all our family and friends who prayed for her, and the wonderful care of the nurses and doctors at Medical University of South Carolina.

Our best Air Force tour ever was when we lived in Turkey. We traveled,meet amazing people, made lifelong friends,grew in our faith, and Mystical Rose was born there.
We meet an incredible servant of God when we traveled to Mary's house in Ephesus. His name was Fr. Tarcy Mathias, and the first time I talked to him I felt I was in the presence of a Saint. His joy for our Lord and Mother Mary was contagious. The life he was leading was one of pure sacrifice. We had the opportunity to meet him twice, and we kept in touch for the past ten years. He was one of the first people I called to ask for prayers when Mystical Rose was diagnosed with cancer.
Back in January of this year we received the card below, with a note that Fr. Tarcy is no longer with us. I got the chills, when I read the date of his death, September 14, 2010. The 1st anniversary of his death would be my due date with baby #5. Within a few days we found out I miscarried, so we decided to name the baby Tarcy. I pray I live to see the day Fr. Tarcy is canonized.

I did a Google search for his name and it turns out there is a website dedicated to his life, and many articles about him.

I was woken up this morning at 6:30 am with breakfast in bed! Homemade Belgian Waffles, fruit & wiped cream! Inch & Rose made grand plans, he woke her up and she made the waffles, he cleaned up. Inch also stayed up after I went to bed last night and baked a cake! His first cake, it was delicious. Rose decorating the cake, with white chocolate!
Although I am missing my hubby ( on a trip for work) and "U" it's turning out to be a wonderful birthday.

I want to share with you about an incredible experience. In the middle of January we found out we were expecting baby number five, and we were all very excited. Shortly after, I got an email about an Ignation retreat for women. I felt a real desire to go but was hesitant because I had never left GMAC overnight. Since I was pregnant I knew that unless I went now, I wouldn’t go on a retreat for at least 3-4 years. I tent to get really attached to our babies.

Fast-forward a few weeks we find out through an ultrasound the baby didn’t have a heartbeat. The baby should have been 8 ½ weeks but measured at 5 ½ weeks. It was not a total shock, as this was my fifth pregnancy and I tend to know my body pretty well. I just didn’t have any of the symptoms I usually had when I was pregnant. I was really tired at first, but a few weeks before I had stopped being so exhausted. Although it wasn’t a shock, the sorrow was still deep. It was bittersweet; this child was a gift from God, His child for us to bring up. My mom always said as a parent your job is to get your children to heaven. I found peace in having an intercessor in heaven.

The thought of going on the retreat was on the back burner at this point. I didn’t want to have a D & C; I didn’t want to deal with an invasive procedure unless I really had to; I wanted things to happen naturally. I was told by the medical professionals that since I was so early in the pregnancy, it would be like having a heavy period. As I patiently…well impatiently waited for the miscarriage to take place the thoughts of going to the retreat re-merged. Crucian Dad was very supportive so I finally decided to go on the retreat the day before it started. At the same time symptoms of the miscarriage had begun, I was a bit nervous about going away during this time, but the retreat center was only 30 minutes away.

I had never seen the women at the retreat before, I casually knew a couple of the nuns serving on the retreat, and I also meet one of the priests. He is a priest from the Minor Seminary that “U” is at and he had been told by “U” about our pregnancy and miscarriage. We meet him a year ago but he didn’t recognize me. When I told him that I was U’s mom, he immediately hugged me and said, “I am so sorry about the baby. “ Saturday evening, I was resting on a sofa waiting for the next talk when Father saw me and asked if I was doing okay. I said that I was fine but a bit tired. He placed his hand on my head and gave me a quick blessing. I was very pleased to receive it and thought to myself that was nice of him.

When I got up the next morning, I received a “gift”, the baby’s body came out intact, within the yolk sack, not as just shredded tissue. I was overjoyed yet so overwhelmed. It was 6:30 in the morning; I am at a silent retreat, among strangers. I placed the baby’s body in a Ziploc bag that I had in my purse. I didn’t know what else to do; I couldn’t bear the thought of flushing our baby down the toilet. I went to the Chapel, prayed for a couple of minutes. I was so overwhelmed; I walked out and wailed for some time, it was tears of sorrow and joy. I wasn’t sure what to do; I thought of asking Father if he would bless the baby’s body and maybe I would dig a hole somewhere…. Not sure of what to do, I asked God to figure it out for me. About an hour later I see Father outside the Chapel so I went to speak with him. He asked me “Did you sleep well?” I said “as well as could be expected.” Then he asked “Did anything exciting happen?” as if he knew. I told him what happened, he said he would bless the baby and we would bury the baby, and we were on holy grounds. I was so happy, God had it all planned.

Father made all the arrangements, the Lady who ran the retreat center (Dianne) found an amazing spot for the baby. During a period of rest Father came and got me and asked if one of the sisters and Dianne could join us. I was fine with that. Dianne picked the most amazing spot, in front of a huge statue of St. Mary with her arms open wide in front of a little lake. Father blessed the body with holy water, prayed, read from the Gospel. I was able to place the baby’s body into the ground. Dianne had a rose plant ready to be planted on top, so we would have it as a marker. Although it would have been wonderful to share this with the family, it might have been too much for GMAC. I was able to mourn in peace, and experience the joy of God’s love. What a blessing, what perfect timing, He had a plan, I just had to trust.

We want to thank all the family and friends for your prayers. The graces from the prayers is what is getting us through this so peacefully. Thank you for all the support and kindness you have shown to us.

*I just want to mention that I am not against having a D & C; this is just what I personally felt called to do

I know you are wondering “what?”

Chukkumkurumalagum translates to dried ginger & black pepper; it’s a tea my mom used to make for us when we had a cold/ flu.

I didn’t like it so much when I was a kid, but my kids actually ask for it when they are sick. Rose wanted know how to make it so I am writing down the recipe. This stuff really clears you up.

Chukkumkurumalagum

2 cups Water

2 decaffeinated tea bags (you can use regular tea if you like)

1 tsp dried ginger powder

3pinches ground black pepper (you may adjust to your taste)

Place all ingredients in to a sauce pan and boil.

I usually sweeten it with honey, and serve.

Makes 2 cups

We have really enjoyed having "U" back for the first time since going to the Seminary.
The order he will (God willing) be ordained in has a unique tradition.
Every Friday night they make and eat Pizza! This Friday we decided to partake in this tradition

We decided to spend the first day of 2011 by going to mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary the mother of God. We were especially blessed to have Theodore Cardinal McCarrick Archbishop, the Emeritus of Washington as the main celebrant & homilist. "U" has a special affinity for the Cardinal since he is the spiritual father of the religious community "U" is in. The Cardinal has made many trips up to visit the boys at the Minor Seminary

both "U" and the Cardinal looked very sporty in their hats

Also at the mass were the nuns from the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará. Wonderful sister that we have gotten to know through the girls oratory they run that Rose attends.

Well some people might say I have a great job... I get to go and videotape the President of the United States. I must say I have to agree. The job isn't all glitz and glamor...sprinting with 40 lbs of equipment in a suit and tie,sweating through your suit twice, and working 17 hour days can make a guy forget how cool this job can be. This past week I was able to experience something that reminded me how great my job is. I was able to travel around the world on Air Force One!

Ten days took me to Ramstein Germany(for a 2 hour refuel stop), Mumbai and New Delhi India, Jakarta Indonesia, Seoul South Korea, Yokohama Japan, and finally Anchorage Alaska (for another 2 hour refuel stop)It was busy, hectic, sweaty, and tiring but now that I have had a little time to reflect on it it was quite an adventure.

Over the next few days I will be posting pictures of my adventure. Stay tuned people!!!!

Check Your Oven

Self cleaning ovens are great, just make sure you don't leave anything inside before you turn it on. The kids noticed there was a fire in the oven, as it was being cleaned. It was the sweet potato fries from lunch that was on fire!! I'm not sure if my stone has survived.

Do What You Already Know to Do

Years ago when I lived in NC and was finishing up my psychology degree I had to take a New Testament Class. I was the only Catholic in the class and the other students asked all kinds of question. Most of the questions led me to learn more about my Catholic Faith. The one thing that stands out most about that class is what the professor said we were discussing how to grow closer to God. "Do what you already know to do."
Growing up we used to pray the rosary as a family every night, and I was not practicing that at the time. I always had many reasons/excuses why I wasn't able to do pray the Rosary, but I knew in my heart that is what I had to do. It took may years until nightly Rosary became a part of my life.
We as a family have received so many Graces from this devotion.

Not Behaving

Yesterday Rose took away one of her schoolbooks from GMAC and told her" this is my school book you can't write in it." GMAC was not very happy.

Rose gave her a piece of paper to write in and GMAC started to write, and she was saying out loud what she was "writing."

"[Mystical Rose] ( she used her first, middle and last name) is not behaving, she doesn't get a lollipop......GMAC is behaving, and she gets a lolly pop."

She repeated this several times, with the cutest pout.

Padre Pio

Today is Padre Pio's feast day. The first time I heard of him was back in 2000 when we lived in Turkey. One of the Italian priest we knew in Turkey actually witnessed Padre Pio bi-locate!
He was Canonization June 16, 2002, so his very first feast day was September 23rd 2002. This is was also the day we discovered that Mistical Rose had cancer. We asked Pader Pio to pray for her her. We are very blessed that she is still alive, healthy and strong. Praise GOD!

Chicken Curry South Indian Style

2lbs chicken cut into chunks
1 lg potatoes cubed
1 med onion sliced ( I like red onions)
2 jalapeno Peppers (more if you like it spicier)
3 cloves of garlic chopped
1 tsp julienned ginger
10 curry leaves
4 tsp oil
2 tsp garam masala

½ tsp turmeric
¾ tsp cayenne pepper
3 tsp coriander powder
4 cardamom pods
1 large tomatoe or 1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 tsp salt or to your taste
1 cup coconut milk

· Heat oil in large pot
· Sauté onions, once they are starting to brown add garlic, ginger, pepper and curry leaves
· A minute later stir in all spices, stir well
· Add tomatoes, chicken and potatoes. Stir well
· Stir in salt and coconut milk
· Bring to a boil
· Cover and cook on med. Heat until potatoes are soft and the chicken is cooked.
· Stir occasionally
· Serve with hot rice.

I voted today!! So what's the big deal? Since Crucian Dad is in the Air Force we've always voted by absentee ballot in our state of residency. I now have a Maryland license so I registered to vote in the local election. Today was the first time I voted in person.

There is something more empowering to go to a voting booth and vote.

We are all missing U, but last night that feeling felt a whole lot deeper. I miss his smile, his hugs, his caring nature, and his wit; I miss my little boy. It's only been a week and a half since we left him, the thought of having to wait until December to see him again makes the pain feel a little sharper. To give myself some comfort I decided to write a few words about the peace I felt when we dropped him off.

I felt very much at peace as we left him on August 15th, you see its a very special day for us. Two years ago last August 15, on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary U and I consecrated ourselves to Jesus through Mary. U was almost twelve, and he read a story about St. Louis de Montfort and asked us to read it. AFter reading the book U wanted to consecrate himself and simultaneously,I was thinking of doing this devotion myself. I decided to do the consecration with U. Completing our 33 days of prayer and mediation was extremely difficult since Rose had a major surgery and was hospitalized for nine days. All we did, during that time was drive an hour to the hospital early in the morning, stay at the hospital with Rose and drive back another hour late at night. All with a nursing 4 month old in tow. With God's grace we did complete this devotion, and finished the final consecration at the the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in Baltimore. We didn't' think we would make it to the Basilica on the 15 of August, since Rose had just come home from the hospital just a couple of days prior. She insisted we go and we did and it was a beautiful day, one of the mountain top moments.

Last year we were praying about buying our first house,we asked Our Lady for prayers. I promised her that if she would pray for us to find us a house before the Feast of the Assumption we would have a Mass offered at our house in her honor. Our Lady came through for us, we closed on the 10th ! We had the Mass at our home on August 15th, you can see the pictures from that day here.

Now a year later, we left U with on August 15th. He was suppose to fly out to the Minor Seminary on the 10th of August, but the Seminarians plans changed, and they were going camping on NY. So I asked if we can drive him up, and they were fine with that. They called us and asked if we wanted to join them on some pilgrimages and we did. We prayed with them, ate with them and just hung out. After the Mass of the Feast of the Assumption U and I reconsecrated our selves. I felt so much peace as we drove away, as if U is in the arms of Our Lady.
Lord help me remember the peace I felt as I miss my little boy.

Well it has happened!
We just returned from dropping "U" off with the Minor Seminary that he will be living with for the next few years and, God Willing, eventually become a priest in their religious Order.

We drove up to the Catskill Mountains where the boys were staying at a retreat center. We were able to spend a full day visiting the National Shrine of North American Martyrs. We also visited the Nation Shrine of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha.

The day was AMAZING the mountain view was beautiful, gorgeous weather and we attended mass at the shrine. It was the feast day of Maximilian Kolbe and the father said in his homily that we must all seek out ways to sacrifice, even in little things. it made me think back to what a friend of our said in her blog(I'm paraphrasing) "how can we say that we love God with all of our heart if we are not willing to give him everything, even our own children." When Mallu and I talked about "U" going I mentioned the quote to her and she simply said "he was always God's to begin with; our kids don't belong to us."

After the shrine visits we followed the boys back to their retreat center where we meet a whole bunch of men from the major seminary. Seeing and talking with these faith filled men helped ease the heartache because I knew that my son was in good hands! The afternoon was spent relaxing with both of our boys playing in the pool with the minor seminarians.

Before dinner we joined all of the seminarians, minor and major, for Adoration and Vespers. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! I was able to be in a room full of people that were truly in love with Jesus.

During Adoration I prayed to Jesus asked him to watch over my son. I asked Our Lady to care for him.

After Adoration was dinner and some nice social time. Mallu and I really enjoyed talking to many of the seminarians, it was a great time.

By morning I really did not have any sadness or anxiousness. I truly feel this is where God wants "U" to be right now.

Keeping Busy

We have been very busy this spring and summer. Traveled, hosted a lot of family and friends, swim team, and tennis to name a few things we've been up to. I hope to post picture of our spring/summer before we start up school again.
Last night my friend R M came over, I haven't seen her in almost two years, but we picked up right where we left off. I meet her six years ago, at a cursillo weekend, and we instantly connected, like a twin sister you didn't know you had. RM and her girls were here for a short but sweet visit. I didn't take any pictures :-(
Later today, a priest friend of our will stop by for a visit. Fr. C, is moving, we've only had a chance to see him a few times since living in the DC area since he travels a lot, so we will treasure this time.
By dinner time our godson and family will be arriving, they will be here for a couple of days.
Inch will be coming back from his mission trip tonight, we've missed him.
So this is how it's been, we are staying so busy and the blog has been neglected!
We will try to post more often, but can't promise anything.

These ladies are young (or young at heart) vibrant, full of love for the Lord and seem to always be smiling!

One of the things the sisters do is run an weekly oratory for young girls. Oratory is like a day camp and Mystical Rose has been going for the past year. This past Saturday the sisters held a family day so we all went. Family Day is something we look forward to; with games, singing, food and fellowship it is always fun.

Best Pedicure Ever

Crucian Dad send me to have a pedicure done as a Mothers Day gift. The last time I went to a nail salon was for my sisters wedding over two years ago because I don't like the way the chemicals smell.

Our neighbor told us about a natural nail salon, and it was a real treat. Cuticles does not soak your feet, you don't have to worry about catching an infection. The atmosphere was very classy, service was fabulous. They use all natural products. The nail polish they use is a Toluen, Formaldehyde, Dbp (dibutyl phthalate) and Camphor-free. No fumes and no harsh smell!

I got a "lemon aide" treatment; with real lemons and a sugar scrub. It was truly a relaxing experience.

Mothers Day Blessings

Happy Mothers day to all of my family and friends who are moms. My mom and mom-in-law are not longer on Earth; I am very blessed to have had them for as long as I did. I miss them both, especially today. It's still has been a wonderful day, my oldest 3 woke me up to this!

Can people be saved without willing it?
The common answer to the question is, No. But there is a prime example of salvation going to people who don't will it, baptized babies who die early. Those kids never sinned, but never willed god either, but there parents did.

Even in the Bible there is an example of someone being saved by another Faith: Luke 5:17-26.
It says: When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven." The man was paralyzed and did nothing, so it was not his faith but his friends faith that saved him.

Now here is the big question, is this an event that only occurs when the person is unable to make an act of will on there own? I am uncertain of this, for sin can pass from human to human (Best example: Original Sin)

I write this with a very heavy heart, my cousin's little baby who was bone five days ago passed away this morning. The doctors had said Maya had a 75% chance to make it, she was born at 25 weeks, just at a one pound.
As parents who were told our baby (Rose) had a 80% chance of survival I was very optimistic. We as a family offered up many prayer, our daily rosary, daily Mass, Holy Hour, several little sacrifices, and prayers through out the day; yet she was called back to be with our Lord. This is not at all easy.

Our jobs as parents is to help our children get to heaven and be with God for eternity. They don't belong to us; He has entrusted them to us for a brief moment on this earth. So we should be happy when our children can go to heaven, yet this not the feeling we experience. The pain one feels at the loss of a child must be indescribable. I can't even imagine the pain Maya's parent, grandparents, uncles and aunts are going through.

I pray they can unite their suffering with our Lord. I pray they find comfort in our Lady, who watched her Son as he was being crucified. I ask for prayers for Maya's parents, family and friends.
We love you, little angel; we will meet you in the Eucharist.

For the past several months I have been helping teach a Confirmation class at Our Lady of the Fields . This has been a wonderful experience, and Scott (the youth minister) allowed me to help out with the Confirmation retreat as well.

They had an awesome skit where a girl asks Jesus to come to her...

And she nails Jesus to the cross.

This was our band during the weekend.

This is my favorite skit, it is the stations of the cross, along side a story of a high school girl.

I have a cousin, (my mom's cousin) in the Missionaries of Charity, I am able to talk with her every first Sunday. I really look forward to to our chats, she is such a joy filled and uplifting person. GMAC loves her little cousin. She wanted to hold him, rock him, and she was real sweet with him. She would even say that it was her baby!
She did have a major problem-- if her I would hold the baby more that a minute or two, she would cry! I was holding my nephew while my sis was in the shower and GMAC cried, saying "baby down, baby down"
I guess she is so used to being the "little baby" in the house.

We got back home safely on Sunday late evening, I must say prayers carried us home. The drive was great until we were an hour away form home, from that point, it took over 3hrs to get home. It was about a 13 hr drive! There was lots of ice and traffic. We were very blessed to have some good friends, who came out and dug us in; THANK YOU!

Well it finally happened Memma had her baby.

Mallu was woken up around 4 AM and mom, dad, and Mallu all went to the hospital by 430.

It was a pretty long labor, her water broke at about 10 AM

the baby was born at 11 o clock weighing 7lbs 4oz

Well there is a time in every parents life when they realize that their little boy/girl is becoming a man/woman. Inch is now 16 years old and gone is that little boy who we held in our arms. Inch has become a mature young adult.

He has shown us that he has wisdom beyond his years. We actually find ourselves asking his opinions on important family decisions. His advice is almost never rash but for the most part well thought out and articulate. It is hard to believe that he will be leaving our house and forging his own path out into this world.

I hope that the world is ready for this young man. He will be a challenge to all that he meets. I mean this in a good way, to often people are satisfied with the "status quo" without questioning why things are the way they are. Inch has never been happy with the standard "just because" answers to his why. This has challenged to grow as parents and as Catholics. He dreams of being a Theology Professor some day and I don't doubt for a minute that he will be one someday.

Happy Birthday Young man we thank God for your health and for you being you.
